You own it. Full stop. Your name, your email, your domain. If you ever leave NexSites, we'll transfer it to any registrar you choose at no charge.
Pointing nameservers means your domain stays at your current registrar (GoDaddy, Namecheap, etc.) but the DNS is managed through Cloudflare by us. It's fast and reversible. A full transfer moves the domain to our registrar entirely — it takes 5–7 days and requires an auth code from your current registrar. Most clients just point nameservers.
No. If you're pointing nameservers, we set everything up before you make the switch — so there's no gap. DNS propagation takes up to 24 hours, but during that window your old DNS still works. Most people don't notice any interruption.
Not at this time. We bundle domain registration with hosting plans to keep things simple. If you just need a domain, we'd recommend Porkbun or Cloudflare Registrar — both offer competitive pricing.
ICANN rules prevent domains from being transferred for 60 days after registration or a previous transfer. If your domain is in that window, just point the nameservers to us instead — we'll do the registrar transfer later once it's eligible.
Usually 5–7 days. When we initiate the transfer, your current registrar sends you a confirmation email — if you click approve in that email, it typically finishes in about 24 hours instead of the full 5 days. Either way, your site stays live the entire time. We'll email you when the transfer is complete.
An EPP code (also called an auth code or authorization code) is like a password for your domain that proves you own it and authorizes a transfer. You get it from the registrar where your domain currently lives — it's usually found under your domain's settings, often labeled "Auth Code," "EPP Code," or "Transfer Code." If you can't find it, your registrar's support team can send it to you by email.
Three things: (1) Unlock your domain — most registrars lock domains by default to prevent unauthorized moves. Look for "Transfer Lock" or "Domain Lock" in your domain settings and turn it off. (2) Disable domain privacy — if you have WHOIS privacy or ID protection turned on, disable it temporarily. Transfers can't complete while it's active. You can turn it back on after. (3) Get your EPP code — see the question above. Once all three are done, you're ready.
Yes. Most domain transfers automatically add one year to your expiration date. So if your domain expires in 6 months, after the transfer it would expire in about 18 months. We'll also set up automatic annual renewals so you never accidentally lose your domain.
